June 21st is the official First Day of Summer, and the Summer Solstice. As well, it marks the first day of my favourite season of the entire year. Yay for summer! Hot days, warm nights, bbq’s, camping, hiking, and fishing. It doesn’t get any better than this!

In the past, May 1st used to be known as May Day and was celebrated in Eastern European Countries, in particular the former U.S.S.R., with military parades. Today it may not have as large of an impact on the rest of the world as it once did, but it is still a day worth remembering as those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it!

All Souls’ Day is a day to honour the recently departed. Prayers and sacrifices were traditionally performed by the masses to encourage souls trapped in limbo or purgatory to be allowed to enter Heaven.
